Deformation Analysis

Overview

Deformation analysis

When so much force is applied to a part that it permanently bends or changes shape, that part has undergone deformation. At a basic level, it is easy to look at a part and recognize that it has changed shape. When measuring actual deformed objects, an X-ray CT is useful because it is non-destructive. To achieve the deformation analysis, datum alignment is created for CAD data and 3D scan data in 3D inspection software, such that there is a one-to-one mapping between the two models before and after the shape change. The deformed CAD data are obtained by matching predicted CAD data and a polygon mesh generated by deformed CT data. Using the "Deviation Location" feature we can adjust the deformation in the mesh. The surface mesh is deformed in a way that allows the underlying surface/edge parameterizations to change, and it is shown how the domain mesh can be updated based on the surface mesh deformation before and after shape change. The output analysis report is delivered to the customer in the desired format.
