Digital Sculpting is an organic way to create a 3D model. Digital Sculpting refers to the action of using 3D tools to sculpt digitized clay, like traditional sculpting. Manipulating a digital polygon mesh is possible with Freeform software. Software with brushes and tools that push, pull, pinch and smooth make it easy to create detailed sculptures that imitate real-life textures and existing objects. Digital sculpting offers layer management to organize the sculpting information, therefore we can sculpt different textures and patterns over a single surface. Digital sculpting is perfect for complex, irregular, and unique designs due to its non-rigid limitations. This method is the right choice for manufacturers who produce items that have organic or unusual shapes. Digital sculpting is used in computer games, movies, design, art, and so on.
Digital sculpting works with touch-based haptic devices combined with Freeform software to sculpt the organic, digital design for custom manufacturing—first, the basic model obtained from the 3D scan data. We process the mesh data by using Freeform software tools that manipulate the geometry of the sculpt. These tools can push, pull, twist and even add on extra geometry. When the polygon mesh is even and some edges are distributed clearly, It helps to cut down the crafting time. We need to be clear with details that need to be sculpted, and which areas can use normal maps or displacements to achieve a similar result in texturing tools. The final CAD files with sculpted features can be imported and exported in STL, OBJ, PLY, IGES, STEP, and other neutral formats.
